Facts and Figures

THE SCHOOL

Wheaton Christian Grammar School is an inter-denominational Christian school, educating students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Founded in 1942 by a group of parents, WCGS operates under the governance of the Wheaton Society for Christian Instruction, membership of which is open to any interested parents and friends who agree with the objectives of the Society.

OUR MISSION

Under the authority of God and His word …
WCGS exists to train and nurture children for godliness and excellence through academics, arts, athletics, and relationships with Christ and others.

ACCREDITATION

WCGS has full nonpublic school recognition from the Illinois State Board of Education, and is a charter member of the Association of Christian Schools International.

ADMINISTRATION

Mr. Steve Clum, Head of School
Mr. Mike Rogers, Principal
Mr. Roger Burgess, Assistant Principal and Counselor

ENROLLMENT AND CLASS SIZE

Board of Directors’ policy sets the maximum number of students per class at 24, however, some exceptions exist due to past enrollment policies.
K-8 enrollment for 2007-2008: 495

BREADTH OF PROGRAMS

WCGS offers students the opportunity to explore their God-given gifts through its instrumental music program, choir, musical and dramatic productions, intramural and co-curricular athletics, and a wide variety of academic competitions. Students are challenged in their spiritual growth by visiting speakers, missionaries and musicians at chapels and assemblies.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

Every effort is made to employ the newest technologies available, aiding the faculty and staff in their daily tasks, and in the training of the students. The school has an excellent library, an up-to-date computer lab, computers in every classroom, and state of the art equipment for music and film.

STANDARDIZED TESTING

WCGS students routinely test above state and national norms on standardized tests of achievement. Tests used to measure these accomplishments include the Stanford Achievement Test, administered each spring.

SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRAMS

The Kaleidoscope program, using the model developed by the National Institute for Learning Disabilities (NILD), offers an individualized program to help students who learn differently. Classroom teachers and educational therapists work together to ensure that these students work to their full potential. A full-time reading specialist is also available to assist those students in early elementary grades who experience difficulty in that area.

FIELD TRIPS

The Chicago area is rich in resources for educational field trips. Downtown highlights include the Chicago Symphony, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the exhibits at the Chicago Historical Society. Local excursions provide opportunities to visit Graue Mill, Kline Creek Farm, the Billy Graham Center, and the Morton Arboretum, among many others.
