FROM MR. CLUM'S DESK? Not so fast! There's a guest blogger this week on the subject of how teaching our students critical thinking skills is so much more important than teaching facts alone. Read this week's blog.
ALOOO? Not this Saturday! We'll resume next week, February 25.
Annual meeting All are encouraged to attend our March 19 Annual Business Meeting, but in order to vote, you need to be an active member of the Wheaton Society for Christian Instruction. You’ll find the details here on our website under Parents, Forms, Society application. Membership requires a signed agreement with the WCGS Statement of Faith and a donation of $5 or more (per voting member) any time since July 1, 2011. New applications are due in the office by next Friday, March 9. Not sure if you’ve done this? Call Mrs. DeGroot (x211). A quorum of active members is required to transact important school business!
Box Tops Please continue to clip Box Tops! You can submit them in zippered baggies marked with your child’s grade and teacher. This prevents smaller ones from getting lost and they are easier to collect. Thank you again for your diligence! Turn all your Box Tops in before the end of the class contest, February 28.
Dental Exams for current kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th graders are due by April 30. Any exam completed within 18 months of May 15 , 2012 will suffice.

Family Movie Night featuring "Dolphin Tale"
When: Friday, February 24 It’s an evening of fun for the whole family. Bring your pillows, sleeping bags, and bean bag chairs. We'll relax in the Commons and watch a terrific movie with friends. Refreshments will be available. |
IGSMA This Saturday will be a busy day on our campus when more than 300 students and their parents from six area schools will convene at WCGS for the Illinois Grade School Music Association solo and ensemble contest. This district event provides an opportunity for students to perform instrumental or vocal selections for a judge who then rates the student's performance. It is an immensely valuable experience for young musicians. We appreciate the many who have volunteered to assist with this important event at which we pray our Christian hospitality might shine forth to our guests. And speaking of music activities, K-3rd grade parents should note that next Thursday, February 23, we'll enjoy vocal concerts at 6:30 (K-1) and 7:15 p.m. (2-3).
Salad Supper Ladies will not want to miss this evening of fellowship, fun, and an inspiring speaker, Kathleen Nielson. Remember to RSVP online by Feb. 29.

Spring Musical - Open Position Wheaton Christian Grammar School’s Annual Spring Musical is a highlight of the school year for our 7th and 8th graders who are involved as well as the hundreds of patrons of the three performances. This year’s musical, The Wizard of Oz, will held be the last week of April. We still have an important position that needs to be filled:
Sound Technician. We are looking for an individual to lead our sound technical team. This person must have experience in operating a sound mixer and have a good understanding of sound reinforcement systems. We have a 48-channel digital mixer. Experience should include operating and using wireless systems, setting up EQs, and managing and training a group of students to run sound during rehearsals and performances. A stipend is available for this position. Please contact Musical Director, Beth Wright, for more information at bwright@wheatonchristian.org or (630) 668-8356.
Thank you VERY much!
The faculty and staff want to send a big “Thank you” to our Auxiliary Appreciation Committee and all the room parents who provided bountiful gift baskets during Appreciation Week. Many families generously donated gift cards to go in the baskets. On Monday the committee served a wonderful lunch, teacher treats were provided by the Women in Prayer on Wednesday, and a delicious breakfast was served on Friday. We all feel very much appreciated! We count it a privilege to serve the Lord at WCGS and work with your children. We are so thankful for the thoughtfulness and love of our school families.
Please remember that stopping to wait along the playground and front of the school is limited to 30 seconds. If you need to stop longer than that, please circle or park in the lot.
We do have several unmanned traffic areas. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Lynne Morris [lmm64@att.net).
Winter Open House Do you know a family who would like to learn more about WCGS? Please consider inviting them to our Winter Open House on Saturday, February 25, at 11:00 a.m. in the Library. Prospective families can hear about the difference a Christ-centered education makes and have a tour of our building. Questions? Contact Kim Norbeck, Admissions Coordinator, at knorbeck@wheatonchristian.org or 630.668.1385 x216.
Your opinions are needed Actually, your opinions are essential! That's why we've commissioned a consultant to launch a school satisfaction survey this week. Please complete the e-mail survey as soon as possible, and be assured that it's entirely anonymous.
We hope you enjoy the long Presidents' Day weekend. (Teachers' In-service on Friday will focus on Formative Assessment.) We'll look forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday, February 21.
