We blinked and the summer was over!  Now it's time for school to begin -- our 69th year -- welcoming an estimated 536 students!  Our faculty is ready.  Read about the ways in which they've prepared for the new school year.

There's a new bug at the school, but it's definitely one that we want!  WCGS is now an official WeatherBug® site.

What did teachers do during the summer months? The move to our new campus will require an extra measure of time and planning for teachers as they prepare their new classrooms. Summer is also a time to sharpen skills and explore new teaching methods. Teachers Donna Dominguez, Kathy Mitchell, Kim Washington, and Heather Van Wagner benefitted from the WCGS Endowment for Teaching Excellence when they attended the Orton-Gillingham training course for a multi-sensory approach to reading instruction in mid-July. The approach emphasizes a kinesthetic/tactile component to reading instruction, which involves both fine and gross motor activities.  As one of the participants summarized, “I am excited to begin to incorporate this approach into my work with students and help them to become successful, independent learners.”

We're very thankful that the move to the new campus went so well.  Thanks to our terrific faculty and the many volunteers who helped!   Our summer tours were a huge success.  Weekly Drop In and Learn More events (Tuesday mornings, 9-10 a.m.) for prospective parents resume on October 5.

Parents: do you take photos on field trips, at concerts, chapels, or classroom events?  If so, the Yearbook could benefit if you'd be willing to share.  Jostens, the company we use for the Yearbook production, has established an easy photo-sharing site where you can upload  photos that our Yearbook staff can access.  Learn more about it here
