Our mission statement includes the expectation that we will be "equipping them to engage and transform their world for Jesus Christ." These aren't just words; we mean it! We believe that all of us are responsible to impact our community and our world by being the hands and feet of Christ. Here are just a few of the ways in which we've tried to live out that mandate in the past year:
- Students and their families responded quickly to provide help after the Haitian earthquake of 2010.
- Our 2010 Missions Emphasis Week: God Uses Ordinary People.
- Students and music groups routinely visit and perform in nursing homes.
- Classes partner with a bilingual class each month at Currier School in West Chicago.
- Another class partners with a group of ESL children at College Church.
- Students rake leaves for our community during the fall.
- Kindergarten students visit Build-A-Bear Workshop, and give their creations to local refugee children!
- Eighth grade students clamor for the quarterly signup to make and serve breakfast at the PADS homeless shelter.
- Junior high students travel to Chicago each month to partner with By The Hand urban ministry.
- Students give of their resources for food drives, clothing drives, school supply collection for needy kids, a Christmas gift from each classroom, and the annual Missions Emphasis Weeks collection.
- Coaches have taken their team members to the Humanitarian Service Project and Feed My Starving Children, where the students were able to pitch in to help prepare shipments to needy people.
