Groundbreaking

An estimated crowd of 800 participants lined the perimeter of the new Wheaton Christian Grammar School construction site on March 19, thanking God for His provision and asking for His blessing on the building project and the students yet to come.  The groundbreaking paves the way for construction of a 92,000 square foot school at the 35-acre site.

Cheering onlookers included the entire current student body (wearing bright yellow construction hats), faculty and staff, school parents and grandparents, many alumni and former teachers, as well representatives from Ryan Construction and Legat Architects.  DuPage County Board member J.R. McBride, Mayor Mike Gresk of Wheaton, President Rudy Czech of the Winfield Village Board, and Highway Commissioner Gary Muehlfelt also attended.

Under a nearly cloudless sky and with the temperature at a a crisp 50º, onlookers heard head of school Steve Clum describe the historical process that led to this event.  Current student Ann Marie Bagge, teacher emeritus Marilyn Himmel, and alumnus Court Airhart ('81) shared their own perspectives on the day's significance.  Board president Mike English described his vision for the school's future, continuing the school's mission of training and nurturing students for godliness and excellence.

First grade teacher Donna Dominguez and her student Calla Mikolajczyk read Psalm 100 in unison, followed by the entire group singing Great Is Thy Faithfulness led by teacher David Wright and his daughter Kristi ('98).  Prayers to begin and conclude the event were offered by Roger Burgess, assistant principal, and Mike Rogers, principal.

Bob Broman, Director of Development and Business Operations, commented “It was marvelous to see our students, teachers, administrators, parents, architects, builders, bankers, government officials, and supporters standing side by side, showing their joy over what God has done for us.  Our Lord has used many people to bring us to this point and we eagerly look forward to what He has planned for us as we build and occupy our new school facility.”

Sincere thanks to the many parent volunteers who assisted faculty and staff in making this a safe and memorable event.  We especially appreciate the generous assistance of Airhart Construction in providing a reception at their Fisher Farms model homes.
